Tyne Valley Parish Christmas Charity Appeal

Don't miss the chance to make a difference . . .

The Christmas Appeal (online) for TVP 2025 goes live on Sunday 30th
November (first Sunday in Advent) and will be live until 25 January 2026
(Burns Day).

The link to the JustGiving is below -

https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/tvpappeal2025

The target is set at  £2000 this year. Will we reach it or exceed it?

This year TVP Church are making a Christmas appeal for the Impact  Youth Groups in the parish.

Impact Youth Groups have been running  for a number of years and are attracting ever increasing numbers of  children and young people. There are three different groups– one in North Middleton Village Hall, one in Pathhead Pavilion and one in Cousland Village Hall.

The groups are all  run by TVP Youth Worker Reece Allan, with the assistance of volunteers and consist of  games, fun and a short look at different Bible stories.

In addition to running the  Groups, Reece helps with PYP in Pathhead, the monthly Family Film Night  in Fala and regularly at Tynewater Primary School.

TVP receives grant funding to run the  Impact Youth Groups but, in common with many such grants, the expectation is that TVP Church will raise a proportion of the necessary funding.  There is a huge benefit to the young people of the parish in having a youth group to attend  locally with their friends run by an experienced youth worker and we ask for your generous support in this project by donating to our Christmas Charity Appeal through our Just Giving link above.

Thank you:   Fiona Corsar, Session Clerk and volunteer at the Pathhead Impact Youth Group

21 December Christingle

 WHAT IS CHRISTINGLE?

Very soon you will see posters around the Tyne Valley villages advertising the CHRISINGLE service in Pathhead Village Hall on 21 December @ 4PM.

While everyone is warmly invited, if you’ve never been to one, you may be reluctant to attend, not knowing what happens.

Here’s a brief summary of what to expect and I hope it will encourage you to join us.

First of all it’s a very friendly, all ages and informal Service; the hall will be set up Café Style with round tables and chairs. On arrival, choose our seat and receive your pack containing an orange, red ribbon, 4 x sweets/dried fruits, 4 x cocktail sticks, a square of tinfoil and a candle.

There will be a short Christmas Message and of course some traditional favourite Christmas Carols for those who are in fine voice.

During the service we will pause for the highlight, learning to create our Christingle candle, with each element having a special meaning and helping us to tell the Christian story:

 The orange represents the world

 The red ribbon symbolises the love and blood of Christ

 The 4 cocktail sticks speared with sweets and dried fruit are stuck into the      orange and represent all of God’s creations, the four seasons and the four corners of the world.

 Square of tinfoil to wrap round the bottom of the candle.

 Finally as we light the candle which is placed in the centre of the orange we are

reminded that Jesus’s light in the world, brings hope to people living in darkness.

Footnote: Originally introduced in 1747 in Germany, Christingle was adopted in the UK in 1968 by John Pensom and was used as a fund-raiser for childrens’ organisations and as a means of bringing families together in an informal church service at Christmas time.
